- Galilee:
- Many of the Jewish traditions, in accordance with "Nevertheless¹ the dimnessª [shall] not¹ [be] such as¹ [was] in her vexation,ª whenª at the firstª he lightly afflictedª° the landª of Zebulunª and the landª of Naphtali,ª and afterwardª did more grievously afflictª° [her by] the wayª of the sea,ª beyondª Jordan,ª in Galileeª of the nations.ª ... The peopleª that walkedª° in darknessª have seenª° a greatª light:ª they that dwellª° in the landª of the shadow of death,ª upon¹ them hath the lightª shined.ª°" {Isa 9:1-2}, assert that Galilee was the place where the Messiah should first appear. Thus also "And they shall goª° into the holesª of the rocks,ª and into the cavesª of the earth,ª forª¹ fearª of the LORD,ª and for the gloryª¹ of his majesty,ª when he arisethª° to shake terriblyª° the earth.ª" {Isa 2:19}, "When he shall arise to smite terribly the earth," is expounded in the book Zohar, as referring to the Messiah: "When he shall arise; ויתגלי בארעא דגליל, and shall be revealed in the land of Galilee."
