This was most probably Hebron, a city of the priests, and situated in the hill country of Judea ("And at that¹ timeª cameª ° Joshua,ª and cut offª °¹ the Anakimsª from¹ the mountains,ª from¹ Hebron,ª from¹ Debir,ª from¹ Anab,ª and from all¹ ¹ the mountainsª of Judah,ª and from all¹ ¹ the mountainsª of Israel:ª Joshuaª destroyed¹ them utterly² ° with¹ their cities.ª" {Jsh 11:21} + "And they gaveª ° them¹ the cityª of Arbaª °² the fatherª of Anak,ª which¹ [city is] Hebron,ª in the hillª [country] of Judah,ª with¹ the suburbsª thereof round aboutª it." {Jsh 21:11} + "Thus they gaveª ° to the childrenª of Aaronª the priestª ¹ Hebronª with¹ her suburbs,ª [to be]¹ a cityª of refugeª for the slayer;ª ° and Libnahª with¹ her suburbs,ª" {Jsh 21:13}), about 25 miles south of Jerusalem, and nearly 100 from Nazareth.
