- It is Corban:
- Rather, "Let it be a corban" a formula common among the Jews on such occasions; by which the Pharisees released a child from supporting his parents; and even deemed it sacrilege if he afterwards gave anything for their use. "Butª yeª say,ª° Whosoeverªª shall sayª° to [his] fatherª orª [his] mother,ª [It is] a gift,ª by² whatsoeverªª thou mightest be profitedª° by¹ me;ª" {Mtt 15:5} + "And,ª Whosoeverªª shall swearª° byª the¹ altar,ª it isª° nothing;ª butª whosoeverªª swearethª° byª the¹ giftª that¹ is uponª it,ª he is guilty.ª°" {Mtt 23:18} + "Butª if¹ any²¹ widowª haveª° childrenª orª nephews,ª let them learnª° firstª to shew pietyª° at¹ home,ª² andª to requiteªª° their parents:ª forª thatª isª° goodª andª acceptableª beforeª God.ª ... Butª if¹ any²¹ provide²° not² for¹¹ his own,ª andª speciallyª for those of his own house,ª he hath deniedª° the¹ faith,ª andª isª° worse¹ than² an infidel.ª" {1Tm 5:4-8}
