- pulse to eat:
- Heb. of pulse that we may eat, etc. Pulse, zeroim denotes all leguminous plants, which are not reaped but pulled or plucked; which, however wholesome, was not naturally calculated to render them fatter in flesh than the others. "Thus Melzarª took awayª°¹ the portion of their meat,ª and the wineª that they should drink;ª and gaveª° them pulse.ª" {Dan 1:16} + "And Godª said,ª° Behold,ª I have givenª° you¹ every¹ herbª bearingª° seed,ª which¹ [is] upon¹ the faceª of all¹ the earth,ª and every¹ tree,ª in the which¹ [is] the fruitª of a treeª yieldingª° seed;ª to you it shall beª° for meat.ª ... And to every¹ beastª of the earth,ª and to every¹ fowlª of the air,ª and to every thing¹ that creepethª° upon¹ the earth,ª wherein¹ [there is] life,ªª [I have given]¹ every¹ greenª herbª for meat:ª and it was¹ so.¹" {Gen 1:29-30} + "And he humbledª° thee, and suffered thee to hunger,ª° and fedª° thee with¹ manna,ª which¹ thou knewestª° not,¹ neither¹ did thy fathersª know;ª° that¹ he might make thee knowª° that¹ manª doth not¹ liveª° by¹ breadª only,ª but¹ by¹ every¹ [word] that proceedeth² out¹ of the mouthª of the LORDª doth manª live.ª°" {Deu 8:3} + "For² oneª¹ believethª° that he may eatª° all things:ª¹ another,²¹ who is weak,ª° eatethª° herbs.ª" {Rom 14:2}
