his stairs:
Rather, "its ascents," maalothehoo probably an inclined plane; for the law ordained that the priest should not ascend by stairs. "Neither¹ shalt thou go upª ° by stepsª unto¹ mine altar,ª that¹ thy nakednessª be not¹ discoveredª ° thereon.¹" {Exd 20:26}
