one over another:
Heb. side chamber over side chamber, thirty in order. or, three and thirty times, or feet. We find by Josephus, that around Solomon's temple were chambers three stories high, each story consisting of thirty chambers; which are supposed to have been on the north, south, and east sides of the temple.
and they:
"The nethermostª chamberª° [was] fiveª cubitsª broad,ª and the middleª [was] sixª cubitsª broad,ª and the thirdª [was] sevenª cubitsª broad:ª for¹ without¹ [in the wall] of² the houseª he madeª° narrowed restsª round about,ª that [the beams] should not¹ be fastenedª° in the wallsª of the house.ª" {1Kg 6:6} + "And [then] he builtª°¹ chambersª° against¹ all¹ the house,ª fiveª cubitsª high:ª and they rested²° on¹¹ the houseª [with] timberª of cedar.ª" {1Kg 6:10}

Heb. be holden, "Who² are keptª° byª the powerª of Godª throughª faithª untoª salvationª readyª to be revealedª° inª the lastª time.ª" {1Pe 1:5}
but:
That is, the beams or supporters, of the chambers were not let into the main wall of the temple; but rested on projections of the outer wall, which became a cubit narrower at every story, leaving a ledge of one cubit, to support the beams.
