And I:
For the enormous idolatries and cruelties of Judah and Jerusalem, Jehovah determined to gather together the surrounding nations, both those with whom they had formed alliances, as the Egyptians and Assyrians, and such as had always been inimical to them, as Edom, Ammon, Moab, and Philistia, to inflict, or to witness, his judgments upon them. Having exposed their enormous crimes to view, He would pass sentence upon them: He would give Jerusalem into the hands of the Chaldeans, who would destroy the city and temple which they had polluted; level their cities and high places with the ground; slay, plunder, and enslave the people.
they shall throw:
"[That] thou hast also builtª° unto thee an eminent place,ª and hast madeª° thee an high placeª in every¹ street.ª ... Thou hast builtª° thy high placeª at¹ every¹ headª of the way,ª and hast made¹ thy beautyª to be abhorred,ª° and hast openedª°¹ thy feetª to every one¹ that passed by,ª° and multipliedª°¹ thy whoredoms.ª" {Ezk 16:24-25} + "In that thou buildestª° thine eminent placeª in the headª of every¹ way,ª and makestª° thine high placeª in every¹ street;ª and hast not¹ been¹ as an harlot,ª° in that thou scornestª° hire;ª" {Ezk 16:31} + "My faceª will I turnª° also from¹ them, and they shall polluteª°¹ my secretª° [place]: for the robbersª shall enterª° into it, and defileª° it. ... Wherefore I will bringª° the worstª of the heathen,ª and they shall possessª°¹ their houses:ª I will also make the pompª of the strongª to cease;ª° and their holy places²°¹ shall be defiled.ª°°²°" {Ezk 7:22-24} + "By thisª therefore¹ shall the iniquityª of Jacobª be purged;ª° and this¹ [is] all¹ the fruitª to take awayª° his sin;ª when he makethª° all¹ the stonesª of the altarª as chalkstonesª¹ that are beaten in sunder,ª° the grovesª and imagesª shall not¹ stand up.ª°" {Isa 27:9}
shall strip:
"I clothedª° thee also with broidered work,ª and shodª° thee with badgers' skin,ª and I girded²° thee about¹ with fine linen,ª and I coveredª° thee with silk.ª ... Moreover thou hast takenª°¹ thy sonsª and thy daughters,ª whom¹ thou hast borneª° unto me, and these hast thou sacrificedª° unto them to be devoured.ª° [Is this] of¹ thy whoredomsª a small matter,ª" {Ezk 16:10-20} + "They shall also stripª° thee out of¹ thy clothes,ª and take awayª° thy fairª jewels.ª" {Ezk 23:26} + "And they shall dealª° with¹ thee hatefully,ª and shall take awayª° all¹ thy labour,ª and shall leaveª° thee nakedª and bare:ª and the nakednessª of thy whoredomsª shall be discovered,ª° both thy lewdnessª and thy whoredoms.ª" {Ezk 23:29} + "Moreover the LORDª saith,ª° Becauseª¹ the daughtersª of Zionª are haughty,ª° and walk²°¹ with stretched forthª° necksª and wantonª° eyes,ª walkingª° and mincingª° [as] they go,²°¹ and making a tinklingª° with their feet:ª ... And it shall come to pass,¹ [that] instead¹ of sweet smellª there shall be¹ stink;ª and instead¹ of a girdleª a rent;ª and instead¹ of well setª hairª baldness;ª and instead¹ of a stomacherª a girdingª of sackcloth;ª [and] burningª instead¹ of beauty.ª" {Isa 3:16-24} + "Lest¹ I stripª° her naked,ª and setª° her as in the dayª that she was born,ª° and makeª° her as a wilderness,ª and setª° her like a dryª land,ª and slayª° her with thirst.ª" {Hsa 2:3} + "Therefore¹ will I return,ª° and take awayª° my cornª in the timeª thereof, and my wineª in the seasonª thereof, and will recoverª° my woolª and my flaxª [given] to coverª°¹ her nakedness.ª ... And I will visitª° upon¹ her¹ the daysª of Baalim,ª wherein¹ she burned incenseª° to them, and she deckedª° herself with her earringsª and her jewels,ª and she went²°¹ afterª her lovers,ª° and forgatª° me, saithª° the LORD.ª" {Hsa 2:9-13}
