- Heb. Dig for thee, This was to shew that Zedekiah should escape from the city through a breach in the wall. "And the cityª was broken up,ª° and all¹ the men²¹ of warª [fled] by nightª by the wayª of the gateª between¹ two walls,ª which¹ [is] by¹ the king'sª garden:ª (now the Chaldeesª [were] against¹ the cityª round about:)ª and [the king] went²°¹ the wayª toward the plain.ª" {2Kg 25:4} + "[And] in the eleventhªª yearª of Zedekiah,ª in the fourthª month,ª the ninthª [day] of the month,ª the cityª was broken up.ª° ... And it came to pass,¹ [that] when¹ Zedekiahª the kingª of Judahª sawª° them, and all¹ the men²¹ of war,ª then they fled,ª° and went forthª° out of¹ the cityª by night,ª by the wayª of the king'sª garden,ª by the gateª betwixt¹ the two walls:ª and he went outª° the wayª of the plain.ª" {Jer 39:2-4}
