{Isaiah 63:3} I have trodden 1869 z8804 the winepress 6333 alone; x905 and of the people 5971 x4480 [there was] none 376 x369 with x854 me: for I will tread 1869 z8799 them in mine anger, 639 and trample 7429 z8799 them in my fury; 2534 and their blood 5332 shall be sprinkled 5137 z8799 upon x5921 my garments, 899 and I will stain 1351 z8689 all x3605 my raiment. 4403
trodden:
"For¹ in this¹ mountainª shall the handª of the LORDª rest,ª° and Moabª shall be trodden downª° under¹ him, even as strawª is trodden downª° for the dunghill.ª²°²" {Isa 25:10} + "The Lordª hath trodden under footª° all¹ my mightyª [men] in the midstª of me: he hath calledª° an assemblyª against¹ me to crushª° my young men:ª the Lordª hath troddenª° the virgin,ª the daughterª of Judah,ª [as] in a winepress.ª" {Lam 1:15} + "And ye shall tread downª° the wicked;ª for¹ they shall be¹ ashesª under¹ the solesª of your feetª in the dayª that¹ I¹ shall doª° [this], saithª° the LORDª of hosts.ª" {Mal 4:3} + "Andª the¹ angelª thrust inª° his²¹ sickleª intoª the¹ earth,ª andª gatheredª° the¹ vineª of the¹ earth,ª andª castª° [it] intoª the¹ greatª winepressª of the¹ wrathª of God.ª ... Andª the¹ winepressª was troddenª° withoutª the¹ city,ª andª bloodª cameª° out ofª the¹ winepress,ª even untoª the¹ horseª bridles,ª by the space ofª a thousand² [and] six hundredª¹ furlongs.ª" {Rev 14:19-20} + "Andª he [was] clothed²° with¹ a vestureª dippedª° in blood:ª andª his²¹ nameª is calledª° The¹ Wordª of God.ª ... Andª out ofª his²¹ mouthª goethª° a sharpª sword,ª thatª withª itª he should smiteª° the¹ nations:ª andª heª shall ruleª° themª withª a rodª of iron:ª andª heª treadethª° the¹ winepressªª of the¹ fiercenessª andª wrathª of Almightyª God.ª" {Rev 19:13-15}
and of the people:
The very remarkable "Who¹ [is] this¹ that comethª° from Edom,ª¹ with dyedª° garmentsª from Bozrah?ª¹ this¹ [that is] gloriousª° in his apparel,ª travellingª° in the greatnessª of his strength?ª I¹ that speakª° in righteousness,ª mightyª to save.ª°" {Isa 63:1} contained in the first six verses of this chapter seems in a manner detached from the rest, and to stand by itself; containing a prophetical representation of the victories of the Messiah over the enemies of his church, here designated by the names of Edom and Bozrah. Though, as Bp. Lowth observes, this prophecy must have its accomplishment, there is no necessity for supposing that it has been already accomplished. There are prophecies which intimate a great slaughter of the enemies of God and his people, which remain to be fulfilled. Those in "And the wordª of the LORDª came¹ unto me,¹ saying,ª° ... Thus will I magnify²° myself,¹ and sanctify²° myself;¹ and I will be knownª° in the eyesª of manyª nations,ª and they shall knowª° that¹ I¹ [am] the LORD.ª" {Ezk 38:1-23}, and "Andª I sawª° an angelª come downª° fromª heaven,ª havingª° the¹ keyª of the¹ bottomless pitª andª a greatª chainª inª his²¹ hand.ª ... Andª whosoeverª was²° notª foundª° writtenª° inª the¹ bookª of lifeª was castª° intoª the¹ lakeª of fire.ª" {Rev 20:1-15} are called Gog and Magog. This prophecy of Isaiah may possibly refer to the same, or the like event.
and trample:
"And I will tread downª° the peopleª in mine anger,ª and make them drunkª° in my fury,ª and I will bring downª° their strengthª to the earth.ª" {Isa 63:6} + "For¹ the indignationª of the LORDª [is] upon¹ all¹ nations,ª and [his] furyª upon¹ all¹ their armies:ª he hath utterly destroyedª° them, he hath deliveredª° them to the slaughter.ª ... For¹ my swordª shall be bathedª° in heaven:ª behold,¹ it shall come downª° upon¹ Idumea,ª and upon¹ the peopleª of my curse,ª to judgment.ª" {Isa 34:2-5} + "And he said,ª° Throw her down.ª° So they threw her down:ª° and [some] of her bloodª¹ was sprinkledª° on¹ the wall,ª and on¹ the horses:ª and he trode her under foot.ª°" {2Kg 9:33} + "And it shall come to pass¹ at the same¹ timeª whenª Gogª shall comeª° against¹ the landª of Israel,ª saithª° the Lordª GOD,ª [that] my furyª shall come upª° in my face.ª ... And I will pleadª° against¹ him with pestilenceª and with blood;ª and I will rainª° upon¹ him, and upon¹ his bands,ª and upon¹ the manyª peopleª that¹ [are] with¹ him, an overflowingª° rain,ª and great hailstones,ªª fire,ª and brimstone.ª" {Ezk 38:18-22} + "Then [she that is] mine enemyª° shall seeª° [it], and shameª shall coverª° her which saidª° unto¹ me, Where¹ is the LORDª thy God?ª mine eyesª shall beholdª° her: now¹ shall she be¹ trodden downª as the mireª of the streets.ª" {Mic 7:10} + "And they shall be¹ as mightyª [men], which tread downª° [their enemies] in the mireª of the streetsª in the battle:ª and they shall fight,ª° because¹ the LORDª [is] with¹ them, and the ridersª° on horsesª shall be confounded.²°¹" {Zch 10:5}
