- thou:
- The prophet having briefly set forth, in the beginning of this chapter, the deliverance of Judah from captivity, in consequence of the destruction of Babylon, then introduces this triumphant song, the beauties of which are excellently illustrated by Bp. Lowth. "And thou shalt speakª° unto¹ him, saying,ª° Thus¹ saithª° the LORD,ª Hast thou killed,ª° and also¹ taken possession?ª° And thou shalt speakª° unto¹ him, saying,ª° Thus¹ saithª° the LORD,ª In the placeª where¹ dogsª lickedª°¹ the bloodª of Nabothª shall dogsª lickª°¹ thy blood,ª even¹ thine.¹" {1Kg 21:19} + "Him that diethª° of Ahabª in the cityª the dogsª shall eat;ª° and him that diethª° in the fieldª shall the fowlsª of the airª eat.ª°" {1Kg 21:24} + "Then saidª° [Jehu] to¹ Bidkarª his captain,ª Take up,ª° [and] castª° him in the portionª of the fieldª of Nabothª the Jezreelite:ª for¹ rememberª° how that, when I¹ and thou¹¹ rodeª° togetherª afterª Ahabª his father,ª the LORDª laidª°¹ this¹ burdenª upon¹ him;" {2Kg 9:25} + "And when he was come in,ª° he did eatª° and drink,ª° and said,ª° Go,²° see¹ now¹¹ this¹ cursedª° [woman], and buryª° her: for¹ she¹ [is] a king'sª daughter.ª ... Wherefore they came again,ª° and toldª° him. And he said,ª° This¹ [is] the wordª of the LORD,ª which¹ he spakeª° byª his servantª Elijahª the Tishbite,ª saying,ª° In the portionª of Jezreelª shall dogsª eatª°¹ the fleshª of Jezebel:ª" {2Kg 9:34-36} + "At that¹ time,ª saithª° the LORD,ª they shall bring outª°¹ the bonesª of the kingsª of Judah,ª and the bonesª of his princes,ª and the bonesª of the priests,ª and the bonesª of the prophets,ª and the bonesª of the inhabitantsª° of Jerusalem,ª out of their graves:ª¹ ... And they shall spreadª° them before the sun,ª and the moon,ª and all¹ the hostª of heaven,ª whom¹ they have loved,ª° and whom¹ they have served,ª° and afterª whom¹ they have walked,ª° and whom¹ they have sought,ª° and whom¹ they have worshipped:ª° they shall not¹ be gathered,ª° nor¹ be buried;ª° they shall be¹ for dungª upon¹ the faceª of the earth.ª" {Jer 8:1-2} + "Both the greatª and the smallª shall dieª° in this¹ land:ª they shall not¹ be buried,ª° neither¹ shall [men] lamentª° for them, nor¹ cut²° themselves,¹ nor¹ make themselves baldª° for them:" {Jer 16:6} + "He shall be buriedª° with the burialª of an ass,ª drawnª° and cast forthª° beyondª¹ the gatesª of Jerusalem.ª" {Jer 22:19}
