{Isaiah 10:28} He is come 935 z8804 to x5921 Aiath, 5857 he is passed 5674 z8804 to Migron; 4051 at Michmash 4363 he hath laid up 6485 z8686 his carriages: 3627
He is come:
This is a prophetical description of the march of Sennacherib's army approaching Jerusalem in order to invest it, and of the terror and confusion spreading and increasing through the several places as he advanced; expressed with great brevity, but finely diversified. Aiath, or Ai, was situated a little east of Bethel about twelve miles north of Jerusalem; Michmash about three miles nearer, where there was a narrow pass between two sharp hills; Geba and Ramah about three miles more to the south; Gibeah a mile and a half more southward; Anathoth within three miles of Jerusalem; to the westward of which, towards Lydda, was Nob, from which place Sennacherib might have a prospect of Zion, and near which, it would appear, his army was destroyed.
Aiath:
"And Joshuaª sentª° men²¹ from Jerichoª¹ to Ai,ª which¹ [is] besideª Bethaven,ª on the east sideª¹ of Bethel,ª and spakeª° unto¹ them, saying,ª° Go upª° and viewª°¹ the country.ª And the men²¹ went upª° and viewedª°¹ Ai.ª" {Jsh 7:2} + "The childrenª also of Benjaminª from Gebaª¹ [dwelt] at Michmash,ª and Aija,ª and Bethel,ª and [in] their villages,ª" {Neh 11:31}, Aija
Migron:
"And Saulª tarriedª° in the uttermost² part¹ of Gibeahª under¹ a pomegranate treeª which¹ [is] in Migron:ª and the peopleª that¹ [were] with¹ him [were] about sixª hundredª men;ª" {1Sm 14:2}
Michmash:
"Saulª choseª° him threeª thousandª [men] of Israel;ª¹ [whereof] two thousandª were¹ with¹ Saulª in Michmashª and in mountª Bethel,ª and a thousandª were¹ with¹ Jonathan²¹ in Gibeahª of Benjamin:ª and the restª of the peopleª he sentª° every manª to his tent.ª" {1Sm 13:2} + "And the Philistinesª gathered themselves togetherª° to fightª° with¹ Israel,ª thirtyª thousandª chariots,ª and sixª thousandª horsemen,ª and peopleª as the sandª which¹ [is] on¹ the seaª shoreª in multitude:ª and they came up,ª° and pitchedª° in Michmash,ª eastwardª from Bethaven.ª" {1Sm 13:5} + "The forefrontª of the oneª [was] situateª northwardª¹ over againstª Michmash,ª and the otherª southwardª¹ over againstª Gibeah.ª" {1Sm 14:5} + "And they smoteª° the Philistinesª that¹ dayª from Michmashª¹ to Aijalon:ª and the peopleª were veryª faint.²°¹" {1Sm 14:31}
