- they:
- The descendants of Adam have sought out an immense number of inventions, in order to find happiness in the world, without God, which have only proved so many variations of impiety and iniquity. "And when the womanª sawª° that¹ the treeª [was] goodª for food,ª and that¹ itª [was] pleasantª to the eyes,ª and a treeª to be desiredª° to make [one] wise,ª° she tookª° of the fruit¹¹ thereof,² and did eat,ª° and gaveª° alsoª unto her husbandª with¹ her; and he did eat.ª° ... And the eyesª of them bothª were opened,ª° and they² knewª° that¹ they¹ [were] naked;ª and they sewedª° figª leavesª together,²° and made¹ themselves²° aprons.ª" {Gen 3:6-7} + "And GODª sawª° that¹ the wickednessª of manª [was] greatª in the earth,ª and [that] every¹ imaginationª of the thoughtsª of his heartª [was] onlyª evilª continually.ª¹ ... And it repentedª° the LORDª that¹ he had madeª°¹ manª on the earth,ª and it grievedª° him atª his heart.ª" {Gen 6:5-6} + "The earthª also was corruptª° beforeª God,ª and the earthª was filledª° with violence.ª ... And Godª looked²° upon¹¹ the earth,ª and, behold,¹ it was corrupt;ª° for¹ all¹ fleshª had corruptedª°¹ his wayª upon¹ the earth.ª" {Gen 6:11-12} + "And they said,ª° Go to,ª° let us buildª° us a cityª and a tower,ª whose topª [may reach] unto heaven;ª and let us makeª° us a name,ª lest¹ we be scattered abroadª° upon¹ the faceª of the whole¹ earth.ª ... And the LORDª said,ª° Behold,¹ the peopleª [is] one,ª and they have all¹ oneª language;ª and this¹ they beginª° to do:ª° and now¹ nothingªª will be restrainedª° from¹ them, which¹ they have imaginedª° to do.ª°" {Gen 11:4-6} + "Thou answeredstª° them, O LORDª our God:ª thou¹ wast¹ a Godª that forgavestª° them, though thou tookest vengeanceª° of¹ their inventions.ª" {Psa 99:8} + "Thus they provoked [him] to angerª° with their inventions:ª and the plagueª brake inª° upon them." {Psa 106:29} + "Thus were they defiledª° with their own works,ª and went a whoringª° with their own inventions.ª" {Psa 106:39} + "Be astonished,ª° O ye heavens,ª at¹ this,¹ and be horribly afraid,ª° be ye veryª desolate,ª° saithª° the LORD.ª ... For¹ my peopleª have committedª° twoª evils;ª they have forsakenª° me the fountainª of livingª waters,ª [and] hewed them outª° cisterns,ª brokenª° cisterns,ª that¹ can holdª° no¹ water.ª" {Jer 2:12-13} + "For¹ my peopleª [is] foolish,ª they have not¹ knownª° me; they¹ [are] sottishª children,ª and they¹ have none¹ understanding:ª° they¹ [are] wiseª to do evil,ª° but to do goodª° they have no¹ knowledge.ª°" {Jer 4:22} + "Behold,¹ the princesª of Israel,ª every oneª were¹ in thee to their powerª to¹ shedª° blood.ª ... Behold,¹ therefore I have smittenª° mine handª at¹ thy dishonest gainª which¹ thou hast made,ª° and at¹ thy bloodª which¹ hath been¹ in the midstª of thee." {Ezk 22:6-13} + "Forª laying asideª° the¹ commandmentª of God,ª ye holdª° the¹ traditionª of men,ª [as] the washingª of potsª andª cups:ª andª manyª otherª suchª like thingsª ye do.ª° ... Andª he saidª° unto them,ª Full wellª ye rejectª° the¹ commandmentª of God,ª thatª ye may keepª° your ownª tradition.ª" {Mrk 7:8-9} + "Sayingª° unto Aaron,ª Makeª° usª godsª toª go beforeª° us:ª forª [as for] thisª Moses,ª whichª broughtª° usª out ofª the landª of Egypt,ª we wotª° notª whatª is becomeª° of him.ª ... Yea,ª ye took upª° the¹ tabernacleª of Moloch,ª andª the¹ starª of yourª godª Remphan,ª figuresª whichª ye madeª° to worshipª° them:ª andª I will carry²° you² awayª°¹ beyondª Babylon.²¹" {Act 7:40-43} + "Because² that,¹ when they knewª° God,ª they glorifiedª° [him] notª asª God,ª neitherª were thankful;ª° butª became vainª° inª their²¹ imaginations,ª andª their²¹ foolishª heartª was darkened.ª° ... Whoª knowingª° the¹ judgmentª of God,ª thatª they which commitª° such thingsª areª° worthyª of death,ª notª onlyª doª° the same,ª butªª have pleasureª° in them that doª° them." {Rom 1:21-32} + "Whatª then?ª are we betterª° [than they]? No,ª in no wise:ª forª we have before provedª° bothª Jewsª andª Gentiles,ª that they areª° allª underª sin;ª ... Nowª we knowª° thatª what things soeverª the¹ lawª saith,ª° it saithª° to them¹ who are underª the¹ law:ª thatª everyª mouthª may be stopped,ª° andª allª the¹ worldª may becomeª° guiltyª before God.ª" {Rom 3:9-19} + "Whereinªª in time pastª ye walkedª° according¹ to² the¹ courseª of thisª world,ª according¹ to² the¹ princeª of the¹ powerª of the¹ air,ª the¹ spiritª that now² workethª°¹ inª the¹ childrenª of disobedience:ª ... Amongª whomª alsoª weª allª had our conversationª° in times pastª inª the¹ lustsª of ourª flesh,ª fulfillingª° the¹ desiresª of the¹ fleshª andª of the¹ mind;ª andª wereª° by natureª the childrenª of wrath,ª evenª asª others.ª" {Eph 2:2-3} + "Forª we¹ ourselves² alsoª wereª°²° sometimesª foolish,ª disobedient,ª deceived,ª° servingª° diversª lustsª andª pleasures,ª livingª° inª maliceª andª envy,ª hateful,ª [and] hatingª° one another.ª" {Tts 3:3}
