- The slothful:
- That is, the slothful man uses any pretext, however improbable, to indulge his love of ease and indolence. "The wayª of the slothfulª [man is] as an hedgeª of thorns:ª but the wayª of the righteousª [is] made plain.ª°" {Prv 15:19} + "The slothfulª [man] saith,ª° [There is] a lionª in the way;ª a lionª [is] in¹ the streets.ª ... The sluggardª [is] wiserª in his own conceitª than seven¹¹ men² that can renderª° a reason.ª" {Prv 26:13-16} + "And they brought upª° an evil reportª of the landª which¹ they had searchedª° unto¹ the childrenª of Israel,ª saying,ª° The land,ª through which¹ we have goneª° to searchª° it, [is] a landª that¹ eateth upª° the inhabitantsª° thereof; and all¹ the peopleª that¹ we sawª° in¹ it² [are] men²¹ of a great stature.ª ... And there¹ we sawª°¹ the giants,ª the sonsª of Anak,ª [which come] of¹ the giants:ª and we were¹ in our own sightª as grasshoppers,ª and so¹ we were¹ in their sight.ª" {Num 13:32-33}
