"For¹ thou¹ [art] the gloryª of their strength:ª and in thy favourª our hornª shall be exalted.ª °°°" {Psa 89:17} + "Hath a nationª changed² °¹ [their] gods,ª which¹ [are] yet no¹ gods?ª but my peopleª have changedª ° their gloryª for [that which] doth not¹ profit.ª °" {Jer 2:11} + "Professing¹ themselves² ° to beª ° wise,ª they became fools,ª ° ... Andª changedª ° the¹ gloryª of the¹ uncorruptibleª Godª intoª an imageª made like² to¹ corruptibleª man,ª andª to birds,ª andª fourfooted beasts,ª andª creeping things.ª" {Rom 1:22-23}

That is, their God, who ought to have been the peculiar object of their glory.
