{Psalms 106:15} And he gave 5414 z8799 them their request; 7596 but sent 7971 z8762 leanness 7332 into their soul. 5315
he gave:
"So they did eat,ª° and were wellª filled:ª° for he gaveª° them their own desire;ª ... The wrathª of Godª cameª° upon them, and slewª° the fattestª of them, and smote downª° the chosenª [men] of Israel.ª" {Psa 78:29-31} + "And there went forthª° a windª from¹¹ the LORD,ª and broughtª° quailsª from¹ the sea,ª and let [them] fallª° by¹ the camp,ª as it were a day'sª journeyª on this side,ª and as it were a day'sª journeyª on the other side,ª round aboutª the camp,ª and as it were two cubitsª [high] upon¹ the faceª of the earth.ª ... And he calledª°¹ the nameª of that¹ placeª Kibrothhattaavah:ª because¹ there¹ they buriedª°¹ the peopleª that lusted.ª°" {Num 11:31-34} + "Therefore¹ shall the Lord,ª the Lordª²° of hosts,ª sendª° among his fat onesª leanness;ª and under¹ his gloryª he shall kindleª° a burningª like the burning¹ of a fire.ª" {Isa 10:16} + "From the uttermost partª¹ of the earthª have we heardª° songs,ª [even] gloryª to the righteous.ª But I said,ª° My leanness,ª my leanness,ª woeª unto me! the treacherous dealersª° have dealt treacherously;ª° yea, the treacherous dealersª° have dealt very² treacherously.ª°¹" {Isa 24:16}
but sent:
They despised the manna, calling it light or innutritive food. God gave them flesh as they desired, but no blessing accompanied it; and, in consequence, they did not fatten, but grew lean upon it; and many, surfeited by excess, died of disease. Instead of razon, "leanness," however, Bp. Lowth supposes we should read zeraon, "nausea or loathing," which appears to be supported by several ancient versions, and by "[But] even¹ a whole¹ month,ª² until¹¹ it come outª° at your nostrils,ª¹ and it be¹ loathsomeª unto you: becauseª that¹ ye have despisedª°¹ the LORDª which¹ [is] amongª you, and have weptª° beforeª him, saying,ª° Why¹¹ came we forthª° out of Egypt?ª¹" {Num 11:20}, where this portion of the history of the Israelites is recorded, and where the word zara is used, and rendered, "it be loathsome."
