{Psalms 85:4} Turn 7725 z8798 us, O God 430 of our salvation, 3468 and cause thine anger 3708 toward x5973 us to cease. 6565 z8685
turn us:
The Israelites were not restored from their captivity all at once. A few returned with Zerubbabel, some more with Ezra and Nehemiah; but a great number still remained in Babylonia, Media, Assyria, etc.; and therefore the Psalmist prays for a complete restoration. "Turn us again,ª° O God,ª and cause thy faceª to shine;ª° and we shall be saved.ª°" {Psa 80:3} + "Turn us again,ª° O Godª of hosts,ª and cause thy faceª to shine;ª° and we shall be saved.ª°" {Psa 80:7} + "Turn us again,ª° O LORDª Godª of hosts,ª cause thy faceª to shine;ª° and we shall be saved.ª°" {Psa 80:19} + "I have surely²° heardª° Ephraimª bemoaning²° himself¹ [thus]; Thou hast chastisedª° me, and I was chastised,ª° as a bullockª unaccustomedªª° [to the yoke]: turnª° thou me, and I shall be turned;ª° for¹ thou¹ [art] the LORDª my God.ª" {Jer 31:18} + "Turnª° thou us unto¹ thee, O LORD,ª and we shall be turned;ª° renewª° our daysª as of old.ª" {Lam 5:21} + "And he shall turnª° the heartª of the fathersª to¹ the children,ª and the heartª of the childrenª to¹ their fathers,ª lest¹ I comeª° and smiteª°¹ the earthª with a curse.ª" {Mal 4:6}
O God:
"O my God,ª I trustª° in thee: let me not¹ be ashamed,ª° let not¹ mine enemiesª° triumphª° over me." {Psa 25:2} + "[[[A Psalm] of David.]]ª The LORDª [is] my lightª and my salvation;ª whom¹¹ shall I fear?ª° the LORDª [is] the strengthª of my life;ª of whom¹¹ shall I be afraid?ª°" {Psa 27:1} + "Therefore I¹ will lookª° unto the LORD;ª I will waitª° for the Godª of my salvation:ª my Godª will hearª° me." {Mic 7:7} + "Who¹ [is] a Godª like unto thee,¹ that pardonethª° iniquity,ª and passeth byª°¹ the transgressionª of the remnantª of his heritage?ª he retainethª° not¹ his angerª for ever,ª because¹ he¹ delightethª° [in] mercy.ª ... Thou wilt performª° the truthª to Jacob,ª [and] the mercyª to Abraham,ª which¹ thou hast swornª° unto our fathersª from the daysª¹ of old.ª" {Mic 7:18-20} + "Yeª worshipª° ye knowª° notª what:ª we¹ knowª° whatª we² worship:ª° forª salvationª isª° ofª the¹ Jews.ª" {Jhn 4:22}
cause:
"But he,¹ [being] full of compassion,ª forgaveª° [their] iniquity,ª and destroyedª° [them] not:¹ yea, many¹ a time²° turned²° he his anger² away,ª°¹ and did not¹ stir upª° all¹ his wrath.ª" {Psa 78:38} + "For¹ yet¹ a veryª little¹ while,² and the indignationª shall cease,ª° and mine angerª in¹ their destruction.ª" {Isa 10:25} + "O Lord,ª according to all¹ thy righteousness,ª I beseech thee,¹ let thine angerª and thy furyª be turned awayª° from thy cityª¹ Jerusalem,ª thy holyª mountain:ª because¹ for our sins,ª and for the iniquitiesª of our fathers,ª Jerusalemª and thy peopleª [are become] a reproachª to all¹ [that are] aboutª us." {Dan 9:16}
