{Psalms 75:1} [[To the chief Musician, 5329 z8764 Altaschith, 516 z8686 A Psalm 4210 [or] Song 7892 of Asaph.]] 623 Unto thee, O God, 430 do we give thanks, 3034 z8689 [unto thee] do we give thanks: 3034 z8689 for [that] thy name 8034 is near 7138 thy wondrous works 6381 z8737 declare. 5608 z8765
A Psalm:
Some consider this Psalm to have been written by David on his accession to the throne over all Israel; others refer it to the time of the captivity, considering it as a continuation of the subject in the preceding; but Bp. Patrick and others are of opinion that it was composed by Asaph to commemorate the overthrow of Sennacherib's army, "And it came to pass,¹ when kingª Hezekiahª heardª° [it], that he rentª°¹ his clothes,ª and covered²° himself¹ with sackcloth,ª and wentª° into the houseª of the LORD.ª" {2Kg 19:1}.
of Asaph:
or, for Asaph
for that:
"[[To the chief Musicianª° on Neginoth,ª A Psalmª [or] Songª of Asaph.]]ª In Judahª [is] Godª known:ª° his nameª [is] greatª in Israel.ª" {Psa 76:1} + "I will worshipª° toward¹ thy holyª temple,ª and praiseª°¹ thy nameª for¹ thy lovingkindnessª and for¹ thy truth:ª for¹ thou hast magnifiedª° thy wordª above¹ all¹ thy name.ª" {Psa 138:2} + "Bewareª° ofª¹ him, and obeyª° his voice,ª provokeª° him not;¹ for¹ he will not¹ pardonª° your transgressions:ª for¹ my nameª [is] in¹ him.²" {Exd 23:21} + "And the LORDª passed byª° before¹¹ him,² and proclaimed,ª° The LORD,ª The LORDª God,ª mercifulª and gracious,ª longsuffering,ªª and abundantª in goodnessª and truth,ª ... Keepingª° mercyª for thousands,ª forgivingª° iniquityª and transgressionª and sin,ª and that will by no means²° clearª°¹ [the guilty]; visitingª° the iniquityª of the fathersª upon¹ the children,ª and upon¹ the children'sª children,¹ unto¹ the thirdª and to¹ the fourthª [generation]." {Exd 34:6-7} + "Forasmuch as [there is] none¹¹ like unto thee,¹ O LORD;ª thou¹ [art] great,ª and thy nameª [is] greatª in might.ª" {Jer 10:6}
wondrous:
"For¹ what¹ nationª [is there so] great,ª who¹ [hath] Godª [so] nighª unto¹ them, as the LORDª our Godª [is] in all¹ [things that] we callª° upon¹ him [for]?" {Deu 4:7} + "Did [ever] peopleª hearª° the voiceª of Godª speaking¹ out²° of the midstª¹ of the fire,ª as¹ thou¹ hast heard,ª° and live?ª° ... Or¹ hath Godª assayedª° to goª° [and] takeª° him a nationª from the midstª¹ of [another] nation,ª by temptations,ª by signs,ª and by wonders,ª and by war,ª and by a mightyª hand,ª and by a stretched outª° arm,ª and by greatª terrors,ª according to all¹ that¹ the LORDª your Godª didª° for you in Egyptª before your eyes?ª" {Deu 4:33-34}
