am 2962, bc 1042 (Title), This magnificent and truly sublime ode is supposed, with much probability, to have been composed by David, and sung at the removal of the ark from Kirjath-jearim.
God arise:
"Arise,ª° O LORD,ª in thine anger,ª lift up²° thyself¹ because of the rageª of mine enemies:ª° and awakeª° for¹ me [to] the judgmentª [that] thou hast commanded.ª° ... I have long timeª¹ holden my peace;ª° I have been still,ª° [and] refrained²° myself:¹ [now] will I cryª° like a travailing woman;ª° I will destroyª°°² and devourª° at once.ª" {Isa 42:13-14} + "Awake,ª° awake,ª° put onª° strength,ª O armª of the LORD;ª awake,ª° as in the ancientª days,ª in the generationsª of old.ª [Art] thou¹ not¹ it¹ that hath cutª° Rahab,²¹ [and] woundedª° the dragon?ª ... [Art] thou¹ not¹ it¹ which hath driedª° the sea,ª the watersª of the greatª deep;ª that hath madeª° the depthsª of the seaª a wayª for the ransomedª° to pass over?ª°" {Isa 51:9-10}
be scattered:
"When the Almightyª scatteredª° kingsª in it, it was [white] as snowª° in Salmon.ª" {Psa 68:14} + "Rebukeª° the companyª of spearmen,ª the multitudeª of the bulls,ª with the calvesª of the people,ª [till every one] submit²° himself¹ with piecesª of silver:ª scatterª° thou the peopleª [that] delightª° in war.ª" {Psa 68:30} + "Slayª° them not,¹ lest¹ my peopleª forget:ª° scatterª° them by thy power;ª and bring them down,ª° O Lordª our shield.ª" {Psa 59:11} + "Thou¹ hast brokenª° Rahabª in pieces,²° as one that is slain;ª thou hast scatteredª° thine enemiesª° with thy strongª arm.ª" {Psa 89:10} + "Behold,¹ I will makeª° thee a newª sharpª threshing² instrument¹ havingª teeth:ª thou shalt threshª° the mountains,ª and beat [them] small,ª° and shalt makeª° the hillsª as chaff.ª ... Thou shalt fanª° them, and the windª shall carry them away,ª° and the whirlwindª shall scatterª° them: and thou¹ shalt rejoiceª° in the LORD,ª [and] shalt gloryª° in the Holy Oneª of Israel.ª" {Isa 41:15-16} + "Thou shalt burnª° with fireª a third partª in the midstª of the city,ª when the daysª of the siegeª are fulfilled:ª° and thou shalt takeª°¹ a third part,ª [and] smiteª° aboutª it with a knife:ª and a third partª thou shalt scatterª° in the wind;ª and I will draw outª° a swordª afterª them." {Ezk 5:2} + "And I will scatterª° toward every¹ windª all¹ that¹ [are] aboutª him to helpª him, and all¹ his bands;ª and I will draw outª° the swordª afterª them. ...
