the hawk:
Netz, Arabic naz, Latin nisus, the hawk, so called from natzah, to shoot away, fly, because of the rapidity of its flight. It probably comprehends various species of the falcon family, as the ger-falcon, goshawk, and sparrowhawk. "And Aaronª shall bringª°¹ the bullockª of the sin offering,ª which¹ [is] for himself, and shall make an atonementª° for¹ himself, and for¹ his house,ª and shall killª°¹ the bullockª of the sin offeringª which¹ [is] for himself:" {Lev 16:11} + "And the owl,ªª and the night hawk,ª and the cuckow,ª and the hawkª after his kind,ª" {Deu 14:15}

Is it through thy teaching that the falcon, or any other bird of passage, knows the precise time for taking flight, and the direction in which she is to go to arrive at a warmer climate? "The flowersª appearª° on the earth;ª the timeª of the singingª [of birds] is come,ª° and the voiceª of the turtleª is heardª° in our land;ª" {Sgs 2:12} + "Yea,¹ the storkª in the heavenª knowethª° her appointed times;ª and the turtleª and the craneª and the swallowª observeª°¹ the timeª of their coming;ª° but my peopleª knowª° not¹¹ the judgmentª of the LORD.ª" {Jer 8:7}
