- the third part:
- According to the law, every one above twenty years of age was to give half a shekel to the sanctuary for a ransom for their souls. But, on account of the general poverty of the people, occasioned by their wars, and captivity, and by heavy tributes, etc., in the land of their captivity, this sum was reduced to the third part of a shekel. "And the LORDª spakeª° unto¹ Moses,ª saying,ª° ... And thou shalt takeª°¹ the atonementª moneyª of¹¹ the childrenª of Israel,ª and shalt appointª° it for¹ the serviceª of the tabernacleª of the congregation;ª that it may be¹ a memorialª unto the childrenª of Israelª beforeª the LORD,ª to make an atonementª° for¹ your souls.ª" {Exd 30:11-16} + "Andª when theyª were comeª° toª Capernaum,ª they that receivedª° tributeª [money] cameª° to Peter,ª andª said,ª° Doth²° notª yourª masterª payª° tribute?ª ... Notwithstanding,ª lestª we should offendª° them,ª go¹ thou²° toª the¹ sea,ª and castª° an hook,ª andª take upª° the fishª that first²¹ cometh up;ª° andª when thou hast openedª° hisª mouth,ª thou shalt findª° a piece of money:ª thatª take,ª° and¹ giveª° unto themª forª meª andª thee.ª" {Mtt 17:24-27} + "Forª if¹ there² be firstª° a willing mind,²¹ [it is] acceptedª according to² that²¹ a manª hath,ª°¹ [and] notª according to thatª he hathª° not.ª" {2Co 8:12}
