Why is thy:
"And he askedª°¹ Pharaoh'sª officersª that¹ [were] with¹ him in the wardª of his lord'sª house,ª saying,ª° Wherefore¹ lookª ye [so] sadlyª to day?ª" {Gen 40:7}
sorrow:
"A merryª heartª maketh a cheerfulª° countenance:ª but by sorrowª of the heartª the spiritª is broken.ª" {Prv 15:13}
Then I:
Probably the king spoke as if he had some suspicion that Nehemiah harboured some bad design, and that his face indicated some conceived treachery, or remorse; and, indeed, the words rendered sad, and sorrow of heart, might be rendered evil, and wickedness of heart.
