As thou hast said:
They all resolved to do what Ezra had commanded; and they did put away their wives, even those by whom they had children ("All¹ these¹ had takenª °°° strangeª wives:ª and [some] of¹ them hadª wivesª by whom they hadª ° children.ª" {Ezr 10:44}), each of whom doubtless received a portion according to the circumstances of her husband, and was not turned away desolate. Humanity must have dictated this, and no law of God is contrary to humanity.

so must we do:
"Now¹ therefore let us makeª ° a covenantª with our Godª to put awayª ° all¹ the wives,ª and such as are bornª ° of¹ them, according to the counselª of my lord,ª and of those that trembleª at the commandmentª of our God;ª and let it be doneª ° according to the law.ª ...
