the river of Ahava:
"And I gathered them togetherª ° to¹ the riverª that runnethª ° to¹ Ahava;ª and there¹ abode we in tentsª ° threeª days:ª and I viewedª ° the people,ª and the priests,ª and foundª ° there¹ none¹ of the sonsª ¹ of Levi.ª" {Ezr 8:15} + "Then I proclaimedª ° a fastª there,¹ at¹ the riverª of Ahava,ª that we might afflict² ° ourselves¹ beforeª our God,ª to seekª ° of¹ him a rightª wayª for us, and for our little ones,ª and for all¹ our substance.ª" {Ezr 8:21}

the hand:

and he delivered:
Ezra and his company had now entered upon a journey of several hundred miles through the desert, which they were nearly four months in completing, encumbered with families and possessions, and carrying large treasures with them, which would invite the attempts of the Arabian hordes, and others, that infested that neighbourhood; yet, having declared to the king, "that the hand of God was upon all them for good that seek him, and that his power and wrath were against all them that forsook him," ("For¹ I was ashamedª ° to requireª ° of¹ the kingª a band of soldiersª and horsemenª to helpª ° us against the enemyª °¹ in the way:ª because¹ we had spokenª ° unto the king,ª saying,ª ° The handª of our Godª [is] upon¹ all¹ them for goodª that seekª ° him; but his powerª and his wrathª [is] against¹ all¹ them that forsakeª ° him." {Ezr 8:22}), he determined to travel without a guard, except that of the Almighty, being ashamed to ask any other, after his former avowed confidence in Him! Having, therefore, humbled themselves before the Lord, and besought his guidance and protection, he was intreated by them, their enemies were restrained or disabled, and they arrived unmolested at Jerusalem.
