- with joy:
- "And keptª° the feastª of unleavened breadª sevenª daysª with joy:ª for¹ the LORDª had made them joyful,ª° and turnedª° the heartª of the kingª of Assyriaª unto¹ them, to strengthenª° their handsª in the workª of the houseª of God,ª the Godª of Israel.ª" {Ezr 6:22} + "And they sang together by courseª° in praisingª° and giving thanksª° unto the LORD;ª because¹ [he is] good,ª for¹ his mercyª [endureth] for everª toward¹ Israel.ª And all¹ the peopleª shoutedª° with a greatª shout,ª when they praisedª° the LORD,ª because¹ the foundation²° of the house² of the LORD² was laid.ª°¹¹ ... But manyª of the priestsª¹ and Levitesª and chiefª of the fathers,ª [who were] ancient men,ª that¹ had seenª°¹ the firstª house,ª when the foundation²° of this house² was laidª°¹¹ before their eyes,ª weptª° with a loudª voice;ª and manyª shouted² aloudª°¹¹ for joy:ª" {Ezr 3:11-12} + "And there¹ ye shall eatª° beforeª the LORDª your God,ª and ye shall rejoiceª° in all¹ that ye putª your handª unto, ye¹ and your households,ª wherein¹ the LORDª thy Godª hath blessedª° thee." {Deu 12:7} + "Thus all¹ Israelª brought upª°¹ the arkª of the covenantª of the LORDª with shouting,ª and with soundª of the cornet,ª and with trumpets,ª and with cymbals,ª making a noiseª° with psalteriesª and harps.ª" {1Ch 15:28} + "And on the threeª and twentiethª dayª of the seventhª monthª he sentª°¹ the peopleª away²° into their tents,ª gladª and merryª in heartª for¹ the goodnessª that¹ the LORDª had shewedª° unto David,ª and to Solomon,ª and to Israelª his people.ª" {2Ch 7:10} + "And the whole¹ assemblyª took counselª° to keepª° otherª sevenª days:ª and they keptª° [other] sevenª daysª with gladness.ª" {2Ch 30:23} + "So there was¹ greatª joyª in Jerusalem:ª for¹ since the timeª¹ of Solomonª the sonª of Davidª kingª of Israelª [there was] not¹ the like¹ in Jerusalem.ª" {2Ch 30:26} + "Then he saidª° unto them, Go¹ your way,²° eatª° the fat,ª and drinkª° the sweet,ª and sendª° portionsª unto them for whom nothing¹ is prepared:ª° for¹ [this] dayª [is] holyª unto our Lord:ª neither¹ be ye sorry;ª° for¹ the joyª of the LORDª is your strength.ª" {Neh 8:10} + "Also that¹ dayª they offeredª° greatª sacrifices,ª and rejoiced:ª° for¹ Godª had made them rejoiceª° with greatª joy:ª the wivesª also¹ and the childrenª rejoiced:ª° so that the joyª of Jerusalemª was heardª° even afar off.ª¹" {Neh 12:43} + "[[A Songª of degreesª of David.]]ª I was gladª° when they saidª° unto me, Let us go²°¹ into the houseª of the LORD.ª" {Psa 122:1} + "Rejoiceª° inª the Lordª alway:ª [and] againª I say,ª° Rejoice.ª°" {Php 4:4}; Having set up the worship of God in this dedication, they took care to keep it up, and made the book of Moses their rule, to which they had an eye in this establishment. Though the temple service could not now be performed with so much pomp and plenty as formerly, because of their poverty, yet no doubt it was performed with as much purity and close adherence to the Divine institutions as ever. No beauty is like the beauty of holiness.
