Hath not:
"Now when all¹ this¹ was finished,ª ° all¹ Israelª that were presentª ° went outª ° to the citiesª of Judah,ª and brake² ° the images² in pieces,ª °¹ and cut downª ° the groves,ª and threw downª °¹ the high placesª and the altarsª out of all¹ ¹ Judahª and Benjamin,ª in Ephraimª also and Manasseh,ª until¹ they had utterly destroyedª ° them all. taken away:
This was artfully malicious. Many of the people had sacrificed to Jehovah on high places ("Now when all¹ this¹ was finished,ª ° all¹ Israelª that were presentª ° went outª ° to the citiesª of Judah,ª and brake² ° the images² in pieces,ª °¹ and cut downª ° the groves,ª and threw downª °¹ the high placesª and the altarsª out of all¹ ¹ Judahª and Benjamin,ª in Ephraimª also and Manasseh,ª until¹ they had utterly destroyedª ° them all. Then all¹ the childrenª of Israelª returned,ª ° every manª to his possession,ª into their own cities.ª" {2Ch 31:1}); and Hezekiah had removed them, as incentives to idolatry. Hence Rabshakeh insinuates that by so doing he had offended Jehovah, deprived the people of their religious rights, and that, consequently, he could neither expect the blessing of God, nor the cooperation of the people.

Ye shall worship:
"Take heedª ° to thyself that¹ thou offerª ° not thy burnt offeringsª in every¹ placeª that¹ thou seest:ª ° ... But¹ ¹ in the placeª which¹ the LORDª shall chooseª ° in oneª of thy tribes,ª there¹ thou shalt offerª ° thy burnt offerings,ª and there¹ thou shalt doª ° all¹ that¹ I¹ commandª ° thee." {Deu 12:13-14} + "Only¹ thy holy thingsª which¹ thou hast,¹ and thy vows,ª thou shalt take,ª ° and goª ° unto¹ the placeª which¹ the LORDª shall choose:ª ° ... And thou shalt offerª ° thy burnt offerings,ª the fleshª and the blood,ª upon¹ the altarª of the LORDª thy God:ª and the bloodª of thy sacrificesª shall be poured outª ° upon¹ the altarª of the LORDª thy God,ª and thou shalt eatª ° the flesh.ª" {Deu 12:26-27}

"Moreover he madeª ° an altarª of brass,ª twentyª cubitsª the lengthª thereof, and twentyª cubitsª the breadthª thereof, and tenª cubitsª the heightª thereof." {2Ch 4:1} + "And thou shalt makeª °¹ an altarª [of] shittimª wood,ª fiveª cubitsª long,ª and fiveª cubitsª broad;ª the altarª shall be¹ foursquare:ª ° and the heightª thereof [shall be] threeª cubits.ª ... Hollowª ° with boardsª shalt thou makeª ° it: as¹ it was shewedª ° thee in the mount,ª so¹ shall they makeª ° [it]." {Exd 27:1-8} + "And thou shalt makeª ° an altarª to burnª incenseª upon: [of] shittimª woodª shalt thou makeª ° it. ...
