Ophel:
or, the tower, "The wall," says the Targum, "of the interior palace." Ophel appears to have been a tower, or fort, on the city wall, in which we read "the Nehthinim dwelt." "Now after¹ this² ¹ he builtª ° a wallª withoutª the cityª of David,ª on the west sideª of Gihon,ª in the valley,ª even to the entering inª ° at the fishª gate,ª and compassed² ° about¹ Ophel,ª and raised it up² ° a very great height,ª ¹ and putª ° captainsª of warª in all¹ the fencedª ° citiesª of Judah.ª" {2Ch 33:14} + "Moreover the Nethinimsª dweltª °¹ in Ophel,ª unto¹ [the place] over against¹ the waterª gateª toward the east,ª and the towerª that lieth out.ª ° ...
