Why hast thou:
"And Joabª saidª ° unto¹ the king,ª Now the LORDª thy Godª addª ° unto¹ the people,ª how many soever² they be,ª an hundredfold,ª ª and that the eyesª of my lordª the kingª may seeª ° [it]: but why¹ doth my lordª the kingª delightª ° in this¹ thing?ª" {2Sm 24:3}

the collection:
This was the poll-tax fixed by Moses, of half a shekel, which was levied on every man of twenty years old and upwards, as "a ransom for their souls, that there might be no plague among them." "When¹ thou takestª °¹ the sumª of the childrenª of Israelª after their number,ª ° then shall they giveª ° every manª a ransomª for his soulª unto the LORD,ª when thou numberestª ° them; that there be¹ no¹ plagueª among them, when [thou] numberestª ° them. ... And thou shalt takeª °¹ the atonementª moneyª of¹ ¹ the childrenª of Israel,ª and shalt appointª ° it for¹ the serviceª of the tabernacleª of the congregation;ª that it may be¹ a memorialª unto the childrenª of Israelª beforeª the LORD,ª to make an atonementª ° for¹ your souls.ª" {Exd 30:12-16}

tabernacle:
"But thou¹ shalt appointª °¹ the Levitesª over¹ the tabernacleª of testimony,ª and over¹ all¹ the vesselsª thereof, and over¹ all things¹ that¹ [belong] to it: they¹ shall bearª °¹ the tabernacle,ª and all¹ the vesselsª thereof; and they¹ shall ministerª ° unto it, and shall encampª ° round aboutª the tabernacle.ª" {Num 1:50} + "And Mosesª laid up² °¹ ¹ the rodsª beforeª the LORDª in the tabernacleª of witness.ª ...
