- with psalteries:
- Instead of celebrating his own heroism or the valour of his troops on this memorable occasion, this excellent prince sung with his whole army the praises of Jehovah, the God of hosts, who disposes of the victory according to his pleasure. This conduct was becoming the descendant and successor of David, the man after God's own heart, and of a religious people, the peculiar inheritance of Jehovah. "And Davidª and all¹ the houseª of Israelª playedª° beforeª the LORDª on all¹ manner of [instruments made of] firª wood,ª even on harps,ª and on psalteries,ª and on timbrels,ª and on cornets,ª and on cymbals.ª" {2Sm 6:5} + "And Davidª and all¹ Israelª playedª° beforeª Godª with all¹ [their] might,ª and with singing,ª and with harps,ª and with psalteries,ª and with timbrels,ª and with cymbals,ª and with trumpets.ª" {1Ch 13:8} + "Moreover fourª thousandª [were] porters;ª and fourª thousandª praisedª° the LORDª with the instrumentsª which¹ I made,ª° [said David], to praiseª° [therewith]." {1Ch 23:5} + "All¹ these¹ [were] under¹ the handsª of their fatherª for songª [in] the houseª of the LORD,ª with cymbals,ª psalteries,ª and harps,ª for the serviceª of the houseª of God,ª according to¹ the king'sª orderª to Asaph,ª Jeduthun,ª and Heman.ª" {1Ch 25:6} + "Awake up,ª° my glory;ª awake,ª° psalteryª and harp:ª I [myself] will awakeª° early.ª" {Psa 57:8} + "Upon¹ an instrument of ten strings,ª and upon¹ the psaltery;ª upon the harpª with¹ a solemn sound.ª" {Psa 92:3} + "Let them praiseª° his nameª in the dance:ª let them sing praisesª° unto him with the timbrelª and harp.ª" {Psa 149:3} + "Praiseª° him with the soundª of the trumpet:ª praiseª° him with the psalteryª and harp.ª ... Praiseª° him upon the loudª cymbals:ª praiseª° him upon the high soundingª cymbals.ª" {Psa 150:3-5} + "Andª I heardª° a voiceª fromª heaven,ª asª the voiceª of manyª waters,ª andª asª the voiceª of a greatª thunder:ª andª I heardª° the voiceª of harpersª harpingª° withª their²¹ harps:ª ... Andª they sungª° as it wereª a newª songª beforeª the¹ throne,ª andª beforeª the¹ fourª beasts,ª andª the¹ elders:ª andª no manª couldª° learnª° that songª butª the¹ hundred² [and] forty² [and] four² thousand,ª¹¹¹ which² were redeemedª° fromª the¹ earth.ª" {Rev 14:2-3}
