beyond the sea:
That is, the Dead or Salt Sea, the western and northern boundary of Edom, which is the reading of one of Dr. Kennicott's manuscripts (89), instead of aram, "Syria." "All¹ these¹ were joined togetherª ° in¹ the valeª of Siddim,ª whichª is the saltª sea.ª" {Gen 14:3} + "And the borderª shall go downª ° to Jordan,ª and the goings outª of it shall be¹ at the saltª sea:ª this¹ shall be¹ your landª with the coastsª thereof round about.ª" {Num 34:12} + "That the watersª which came downª ° from aboveª ¹ stoodª ° [and] rose upª ° upon anª heapª veryª farª ° from the cityª Adam,ª ¹ that¹ [is] besideª ¹ Zaretan:ª and those that came downª ° toward¹ the seaª of the plain,ª [even] the saltª sea,ª failed,ª ° [and] were cut off:ª ° and the peopleª passed overª ° right against¹ Jericho.ª" {Jsh 3:16}

Hazazontamar:
"And they returned,ª ° and cameª ° toª Enmishpat,ª which¹ [is] Kadesh,ª and smoteª °¹ all¹ the countryª of the Amalekites,ª and also¹ ¹ the Amorites,ª that dweltª ° in Hazezontamar.ª" {Gen 14:7}

Engedi:
"And Nibshan,ª and the city¹ of Salt,ª and Engedi;ª sixª citiesª with their villages.ª" {Jsh 15:62} + "And Davidª went upª ° from thence,¹ ¹ and dweltª ° in strong holdsª at Engedi.ª" {1Sm 23:29} + "My belovedª [is] unto me [as] a clusterª of camphireª in the vineyardsª of Engedi.ª" {Sgs 1:14}
