And he:
"And Davidª said,ª ° I will shewª ° kindnessª unto¹ Hanunª the sonª of Nahash,ª because¹ his fatherª shewedª ° kindnessª to¹ me. And Davidª sentª ° messengersª to comfortª ° him concerning¹ his father.ª So the servantsª of Davidª cameª ° into¹ the landª of the childrenª of Ammonª to¹ Hanun,ª to comfortª ° him. ... Then there went² °¹ [certain], and toldª ° Davidª how¹ the men² ¹ were served. Instead of wyyasar, "and he cut," the parallel passage is wyyasem, "and he put them;" which is also the reading here of seven manuscripts collated by Dr. Kennicott. Sawing asunder, etc., of human beings, have no more place in the text, than they had in David's conduct towards the Ammonites.

with saws:
"And they made² °¹ their livesª bitterª ° with hardª bondage,ª in morter,ª and in brick,ª and in all manner¹ of serviceª in the field:ª ¹ all¹ their service,ª wherein¹ they made them serve,ª ° [was] with rigour.ª" {Exd 1:14} + "Now¹ therefore ye¹ [are] cursed,ª ° and there shall none¹ of¹ you be freedª ° from being bondmen,ª and hewersª ° of woodª and drawersª ° of waterª for the houseª of my God.ª" {Jsh 9:23} + "And the princesª of Succothª said,ª ° [Are] the handsª of Zebahª and Zalmunnaª now¹ in thine hand,ª that¹ we should giveª ° breadª unto thine army?ª ...
