he appointed:
"And Davidª spakeª ° to the chiefª of the Levitesª to appointª °¹ their brethrenª [to be] the singersª ° with instrumentsª of musick,ª psalteriesª and harpsª and cymbals,ª sounding,ª ° by lifting upª ° the voiceª with joy.ª" {1Ch 15:16} + "And he gathered togetherª °¹ all¹ the princesª of Israel,ª with the priestsª and the Levites.ª ... And Davidª dividedª ° them into coursesª among the sonsª of Levi,ª [namely], Gershon,ª Kohath,ª and Merari.ª" {1Ch 23:2-6} + "And Davidª distributedª ° them, both Zadokª of¹ the sonsª of Eleazar,ª and Ahimelechª of¹ the sonsª of Ithamar,ª according to their officesª in their service.ª" {1Ch 24:3}
