the people:
"Now while he was not¹ yet¹ gone back,ª ° [he said], Go backª ° also to¹ Gedaliahª the sonª of Ahikamª the sonª of Shaphan,ª whom¹ the kingª of Babylonª hath made governorª ° over the citiesª of Judah,ª and dwellª ° with¹ him amongª the people:ª or¹ go² °¹ wheresoever¹ ¹ it seemeth¹ convenientª ² unto thee to go.² °¹ So the captainª of the guardª gaveª ° him victualsª and a reward,ª and let him go.ª °" {Jer 40:5} + "Then wentª ° Jeremiahª unto¹ Gedaliahª the sonª of Ahikamª to Mizpah;ª and dweltª ° with¹ him amongª the peopleª that were leftª ° in the land.ª ... Gedaliah:
"But it came to pass¹ in the seventhª month,ª that Ishmaelª the sonª of Nethaniah,ª the sonª of Elishama,ª of the seedª ¹ royal,ª came,ª ° and tenª men² ¹ with¹ him, and smoteª °¹ Gedaliah,ª that he died,ª ° and the Jewsª and the Chaldeesª that¹ were¹ with¹ him at Mizpah.ª" {2Kg 25:25} + "Even they sent,ª ° and tookª °¹ Jeremiahª out of the courtª ¹ of the prison,ª and committedª ° him unto¹ Gedaliahª the sonª of Ahikamª the sonª of Shaphan,ª that he should carryª ° him home:ª so he dweltª ° amongª the people.ª" {Jer 39:14} + "Then aroseª ° Ishmaelª the sonª of Nethaniah,ª and the tenª men² ¹ that¹ were¹ with¹ him, and smoteª °¹ Gedaliahª the sonª of Ahikamª the sonª of Shaphanª with the sword,ª and slewª ° him, whom¹ the kingª of Babylonª had made governorª ° over the land.ª" {Jer 41:2}
