the high places:
"He¹ removedª °¹ the high places,ª and brakeª °¹ the images,ª and cut downª °¹ the groves,ª and brake in piecesª ° the brasenª serpentª that¹ Mosesª had made:ª ° for¹ unto¹ those¹ daysª the childrenª of Israelª did¹ burn incenseª ° to it: and he calledª ° it Nehushtan.ª" {2Kg 18:4} + "But if¹ ye sayª ° unto¹ me, We trustª ° in¹ the LORDª our God:ª [is] not¹ that he,¹ whose¹ ¹ high placesª and whose altarsª Hezekiahª hath taken away,ª ° and hath saidª ° to Judahª and Jerusalem,ª Ye shall worshipª ° beforeª this¹ altarª in Jerusalem?ª" {2Kg 18:22} + "Hath not¹ the same¹ Hezekiahª taken awayª °¹ his high placesª and his altars,ª and commandedª ° Judahª and Jerusalem,ª saying,ª ° Ye shall worshipª ° beforeª oneª altar,ª and burn incenseª ° upon¹ it?" {2Ch 32:12} + "For in the eighthª yearª of his reign,ª ° while he¹ was yet¹ young,ª he beganª ° to seekª ° after the Godª of Davidª his father:ª and in the twelfthª ª yearª he beganª ° to purgeª °¹ Judahª and Jerusalemª from¹ the high places,ª and the groves,ª and the carved images,ª and the molten images.ª" {2Ch 34:3}

he reared:
"And Jehuª gatheredª °¹ all¹ the peopleª together,² ° and saidª ° unto¹ them, Ahabª servedª °¹ Baalª a little;ª [but] Jehuª shall serveª ° him much.ª ° ... And Jehuª said,ª ° Proclaimª ° a solemn assemblyª for Baal.ª And they proclaimedª ° [it]." {2Kg 10:18-20} + "And it came to pass,¹ as if it had been a light thingª ° for him to walk² °¹ in the sinsª of Jeroboamª the sonª of Nebat,ª that he tookª ° to wifeª ¹ Jezebelª the daughterª of Ethbaalª kingª of the Zidonians,ª and went² °¹ and servedª °¹ Baal,ª and worshippedª ° him. ... And Ahabª madeª °¹ a grove;ª and Ahabª didª ° moreª ° to provoke¹ ¹ the LORDª Godª of Israelª to anger² ° than all¹ ¹ the kingsª of Israelª that¹ were¹ beforeª him." {1Kg 16:31-33} + "And Elijahª cameª ° unto¹ all¹ the people,ª and said,ª ° How long² ¹ ¹ haltª ° ye¹ between¹ twoª opinions?ª if¹ the LORDª [be] God,ª follow¹ ¹ him: but if¹ Baal,ª [then] followª ² °¹ him. a grove:
Rather, as we have before remarked, Asherah or Astarte. So Castel defines Asherah to be Simulacrum ligneum Astarte dicatum; "A wooden image dedicated to Astarte."

Ahab:
"And he walked² °¹ in the wayª of the kingsª of Israel,ª as¹ didª ° the houseª of Ahab:ª for¹ the daughterª of Ahabª was¹ his wife:ª and he didª ° evilª in the sightª of the LORD.ª" {2Kg 8:18} + "And he walked² °¹ in the wayª of the houseª of Ahab,ª and didª ° evilª in the sightª of the LORD,ª as [did] the houseª of Ahab:ª for¹ he¹ [was] the son in lawª of the houseª of Ahab.ª" {2Kg 8:27} + "For the statutesª of Omriª are kept,ª ° and all¹ the worksª of the houseª of Ahab,ª and ye walk² °¹ in their counsels;ª that¹ I should makeª ° thee a desolation,ª and the inhabitantsª ° thereof an hissing:ª therefore ye shall bearª ° the reproachª of my people.ª" {Mic 6:16}

and worshipped:
