{2 Kings 20:7} And Isaiah 3470 said, 559 z8799 Take 3947 z8798 a lump 1690 of figs. 8384 And they took 3947 z8799 and laid 7760 z8799 [it] on x5921 the boil, 7822 and he recovered. 2421 z8799
Take a lump:
"And he said,ª° Bringª° me a newª cruse,ª and putª° saltª therein.¹ And they broughtª° [it] to¹ him. ... So the watersª were healedª° unto¹ this¹ day,ª according to the sayingª of Elishaª which¹ he spake.ª°" {2Kg 2:20-22} + "But he said,ª° Then bringª° meal.ª And he castª° [it] into¹ the pot;ª and he said,ª° Pour outª° for the people,ª that they may eat.ª° And there was¹ no¹ harmªª in the pot.ª" {2Kg 4:41} + "For Isaiahª had said,ª° Let them takeª° a lumpª of figs,ª and lay [it] for a plaisterª° upon¹ the boil,ª and he shall recover.ª°" {Isa 38:21}
the boil:
The word shechin, from the Arabic sachana, to be hot, signifies an inflammatory tumour, or burning boil; and some think that Hezekiah's malady was a pleurisy; others, that it was the plague; and others, the elephantiasis, a species of leprosy, as one of the Hexapla versions renders in "So went²° Satan² forthª°¹ from¹¹ the presenceª of the LORD,ª and smoteª°¹ Jobª with soreª boilsª from the soleª¹ of his footª unto¹ his crown.ª" {Job 2:7}. A poultice of figs might be very proper to maturate a boil, or dismiss any obstinate inflammatory swelling; but we need not discuss its propriety in this case, because it was as much the means which God chose to bless for his recovery, as the clay which Christ moistened to anoint the eyes of the blind man; for in both cases, without Divine interposition the cure could not have been effected.
