- Tiglathpileser:
- Some suppose Tiglath-pileser to be the son of Sardanapalus, but the learned Prideaux makes him the same as Arbaces the Mede, called by Alian, Thelgamus, and by Castor, Ninus Junior, who, with Belesis, headed the conspiracy against Sardanapalus, and fixed his royal seat at Nineveh, as Belesis, called in Scripture Baladan ("At that¹ timeª Merodachbaladan,ª the sonª of Baladan,ª kingª of Babylon,ª sentª° lettersª and a presentª to¹ Hezekiah:ª for he had heardª° that¹ he had been sick,ª° and was recovered.ª°" {Isa 39:1}), did his at Babylon. He reigned nineteen years, from am 3257 to am 3276. "So Ahazª sentª° messengersª to¹ Tiglathpileserª kingª of Assyria,ª saying,ª° I¹ [am] thy servantª and thy son:ª come up,ª° and saveª° me out of the handª¹ of the kingª of Syria,ª and out of the handª¹ of the kingª of Israel,ª which rise upª° against¹ me." {2Kg 16:7} + "Beerahª his son,ª whom¹ Tilgathpilneserª kingª of Assyriaª carried awayª° [captive]: he¹ [was] princeª of the Reubenites.ª" {1Ch 5:6} + "And the Godª of Israelª stirred upª°¹ the spiritª of Pulª kingª of Assyria,ª and the spiritª of Tilgathpilneserª kingª of Assyria,ª and he carried them away,ª° even the Reubenites,ª and the Gadites,ª and the halfª tribeª of Manasseh,ª and broughtª° them unto Halah,ª and Habor,ª and Hara,ª and to the riverª Gozan,ª unto¹ this¹ day.ª" {1Ch 5:26} + "And Tilgathpilneserª kingª of Assyriaª cameª° unto¹ him, and distressedª° him, but strengthenedª° him not.¹ ...
