- in the bedchamber:
- Bachadar hammittoth, "in a chamber of beds;" which Sir J. Chardin thinks does not mean a room to sleep in, but a chamber used as a repository for beds; for, in the East, they sleep upon cotton mattresses, "of which they have several in great houses, against they should have occasion, and a room on purpose for them." "And against¹ the wallª of the houseª he builtª° chambersª° round about,ª [against]¹ the wallsª of the houseª round about,ª [both] of the templeª and of the oracle:ª and he madeª° chambersª round about:ª ... The nethermostª chamberª° [was] fiveª cubitsª broad,ª and the middleª [was] sixª cubitsª broad,ª and the thirdª [was] sevenª cubitsª broad:ª for¹ without¹ [in the wall] of² the houseª he madeª° narrowed restsª round about,ª that [the beams] should not¹ be fastenedª° in the wallsª of the house.ª" {1Kg 6:5-6} + "The doorª for the middleª chamberª [was] in¹ the rightª sideª of the house:ª and they went upª° with winding stairsª into¹ the middleª [chamber], and out of¹ the middleª into¹ the third.ª" {1Kg 6:8} + "And [then] he builtª°¹ chambersª° against¹ all¹ the house,ª fiveª cubitsª high:ª and they rested²° on¹¹ the houseª [with] timberª of cedar.ª" {1Kg 6:10} + "Goª° unto¹ the houseª of the Rechabites,ª and speak²° unto¹ them, and bringª° them into the houseª of the LORD,ª into¹ oneª of the chambers,ª and give them wineª to drink.ª°" {Jer 35:2} + "And he saidª° unto¹ me, Thisª chamber,ª whose¹ prospectª [is] towardª the south,ª [is] for the priests,ª the keepersª° of the chargeª of the house.ª" {Ezk 40:45}
