of his sons:
"The fathersª shall not¹ be put to deathª ° for¹ the children,ª neither¹ shall the childrenª be put to deathª ° for¹ the fathers:ª every manª shall be put to deathª ° for his own sin.ª" {Deu 24:16} + "And when they were departed² °¹ from¹ him, (for¹ they leftª ° him in greatª diseases,)ª his own servantsª conspiredª ° against¹ him for the bloodª of the sonsª of Jehoiadaª the priest,ª and slewª ° him on¹ his bed,ª and he died:ª ° and they buriedª ° him in the cityª of David,ª but they buriedª ° him not¹ in the sepulchresª of the kings.ª" {2Ch 24:25} + "But he slewª ° not¹ their children,ª but¹ [did] as [it is] writtenª ° in the lawª in the bookª of Moses,ª where¹ the LORDª commanded,ª ° saying,ª ° The fathersª shall not¹ dieª ° for¹ the children,ª neither¹ shall the childrenª dieª ° for¹ the fathers,ª but¹ every manª shall dieª ° for his own sin.ª" {2Ch 25:4}

"Thou shalt not¹ bow down² ° thyself¹ to them, nor¹ serveª ° them: for¹ I¹ the LORDª thy Godª [am] a jealousª God,ª visitingª ° the iniquityª of the fathersª upon¹ the childrenª unto¹ the thirdª and fourthª [generation] of them that hateª ° me;" {Exd 20:5} + "Thou shalt not¹ bow down² ° thyself¹ unto them, nor¹ serveª ° them: for¹ I¹ the LORDª thy Godª [am] a jealousª God,ª visitingª ° the iniquityª of the fathersª upon¹ the childrenª unto¹ the thirdª and fourthª [generation] of them that hateª ° me," {Deu 5:9} + "Yet sayª ° ye, Why?¹ doth not¹ the sonª bearª ° the iniquityª of the father?ª When the sonª hath doneª ° that which is lawfulª and right,ª [and] hath keptª °¹ all¹ my statutes,ª and hath doneª ° them, he shall surely² ° live.ª °" {Ezk 18:19}
