Zair is supposed by Calmet and others to be the same as Seir, the country of Seir the Horite, inhabited by the Edomites or Idumeans. Probably the former was a dialectical pronunciation of the latter. "So Joramª went overª ° to Zair,ª and all¹ the chariotsª with¹ him: and he¹ roseª ° by night,ª and smoteª °¹ the Edomitesª which compassed him about,ª °¹ and the captainsª of the chariots:ª and the peopleª fledª ° into their tents.ª" {2Kg 8:21}
