{2 Kings 7:1} Then Elisha 477 said, 559 z8799 Hear 8085 z8798 ye the word 1697 of the LORD; 3068 Thus x3541 saith 559 z8804 the LORD, 3068 To morrow 4279 about this time 6256 [shall] a measure 5429 of fine flour 5560 [be sold] for a shekel, 8255 and two measures 5429 of barley 8184 for a shekel, 8255 in the gate 8179 of Samaria. 8111

Elisha said:

To morrow:
"And it came to pass¹ as the manª of Godª had spokenª ° to¹ the king,ª saying,ª ° Two measuresª of barleyª for a shekel,ª and a measureª of fine flourª for a shekel,ª shall be¹ to morrowª about this timeª in the gateª of Samaria:ª ... And that lordª answeredª °¹ the manª of God,ª and said,ª ° Now, behold,¹ [if] the LORDª should makeª ° windowsª in heaven,ª might such¹ a thingª be?¹ And he said,ª ° Behold,¹ thou shalt seeª ° it with thine eyes,ª but shalt not¹ eatª ° thereof.¹ ¹" {2Kg 7:18-19} + "And I will putª ° a divisionª between¹ my peopleª and thy people:ª to morrowª shall this¹ signª be.¹" {Exd 8:23} + "And the LORDª appointedª ° a set time,ª saying,ª ° To morrowª the LORDª shall doª ° this¹ thingª in the land.ª ... a measure of fine flour:
A seah of flour. The seah was about two gallons and a half; the shekel 2s. 4d. at the lowest computation. A wide difference between this and the price of the ass's head. "And there was¹ a greatª famineª in Samaria:ª and, behold,¹ they besiegedª °¹ it, until¹ an ass'sª headª was¹ [sold] for fourscoreª [pieces] of silver,ª and the fourth partª of a cabª of dove's dungª °² ² for fiveª [pieces] of silver.ª" {2Kg 6:25} + "Andª I heardª ° a voiceª inª the midstª of the¹ fourª beastsª say,ª ° A measureª of wheatª for a penny,ª andª threeª measuresª of barleyª for a penny;ª andª [see] thou hurtª ° notª the¹ oilª andª the¹ wine.ª" {Rev 6:6}

of barley:
"And there cameª ° a manª from Baalshalisha,ª ¹ and broughtª ° the manª of Godª breadª of the firstfruits,ª twentyª loavesª of barley,ª and full ears of cornª in the huskª thereof. And he said,ª ° Giveª ° unto the people,ª that they may eat.ª °" {2Kg 4:42} + "There isª ° aª ladª here,ª whichª hathª ° fiveª barleyª loaves,ª andª twoª small fishes:ª butª whatª areª ° theyª amongª so many?ª" {Jhn 6:9}

in the gate of Samaria:
From this it appears that the gates were not only used as courts of judicature, but as market-places. So Mr. Morier observes: "In our rides we usually went out of the town at the Derwazeh Shah Abdul Azeem, or the gate leading to the village of Shah Abdul Azeem, where a market was held every morning, particularly of horses, mules, asses, and camels. At about sun-rise, the owners of the animals assemble and exhibit them for sale. But besides, here were sellers of all sorts of goods, in temporary shops and tents, and this, perhaps, will explain the custom alluded to in "And it came to pass¹ as the manª of Godª had spokenª ° to¹ the king,ª saying,ª ° Two measuresª of barleyª for a shekel,ª and a measureª of fine flourª for a shekel,ª shall be¹ to morrowª about this timeª in the gateª of Samaria:ª" {2Kg 7:18}."
