And he said, 559 z8799 Give 5414 z8798 unto the people, 5971 that they may eat. 398 z8799

Baalshalisha:
"And he passed throughª ° mountª Ephraim,ª and passed throughª ° the landª of Shalisha,ª but they foundª ° [them] not:¹ then they passed throughª ° the landª of Shalim,ª and [there they were] not:¹ and he passed throughª ° the landª of the Benjamites,ª but they foundª ° [them] not.¹" {1Sm 9:4} + "Then saidª ° Saulª to his servant,ª But, behold,¹ [if] we go,² °¹ what¹ shall we bringª ° the man?ª for¹ the breadª is spentª ° in our vessels,ª ¹ and [there is] not¹ a presentª to bringª ° to the manª of God:ª what¹ have we?" {1Sm 9:7}

bread:

of barley:
"Then Elishaª said,ª ° Hearª ° ye the wordª of the LORD;ª Thus¹ saithª ° the LORD,ª To morrowª about this timeª [shall] a measureª of fine flourª [be sold] for a shekel,ª and two measuresª of barleyª for a shekel,ª in the gateª of Samaria.ª" {2Kg 7:1} + "And the peopleª went out,ª ° and spoiledª °¹ the tentsª of the Syrians.ª So a measureª of fine flourª was¹ [sold] for a shekel,ª and two measuresª of barleyª for a shekel,ª according to the wordª of the LORD.ª ... the husk thereof:
or, his scrip, or garment, Note: Parched corn, or corn to be parched; full ears before they are ripe, parched on the fire. A very frequent food in the East. The loaves were probably extremely small, as their loaves of bread still are in eastern countries. But small as this may appear, it would be a considerable present in the time of famine; though very inadequate to the number of persons. Baal-shalisha, of which the person who made this seasonable present was an inhabitant, was situated, according to Eusebius and Jerome, fifteen miles north of Diospolis, or Lydda.
