- a little chamber:
- An aleeyah, or oleah, as the Arabs call it; a small back house annexed to the principal dwelling, in which the prophet could live in a great privacy as in his own house, and to which he could retire at pleasure, without breaking in upon the private affairs of the family, or being in his turn interrupted by them in his devotions. See note on "And Ehud²¹ cameª° unto¹ him; and he¹ was sittingª° in a summerª parlour,ª which¹ he had for himself alone.¹ And Ehud²¹ said,ª° I have a messageª from Godª unto¹ thee. And he aroseª° out of¹¹ [his] seat.ª" {Jdg 3:20}, and see note on "And he saidª° unto¹ her, Giveª° me¹ thy son.ª And he tookª° him out of her bosom,ª¹ and carried him upª° into¹ a loft,ª where¹¹ he¹ abode,ª° and laidª° him upon¹ his own bed.ª" {1Kg 17:19}
