- the wilderness of Edom:
- The wilderness of Edom was probably the same as that of Zin or Kadesh, through which the children of Israel passed; extending southward from the Dead Sea, to the eastern branch of the Red Sea. See note on "So they went up,ª° and searchedª°¹ the landª from the wildernessª¹ of Zinª unto¹ Rehob,ª as men comeª° to Hamath.ª" {Num 13:21} + "And they journeyedª° from mountª Horª¹ by the wayª of the Redª sea,ª to compassª°¹ the landª of Edom:ª and the soulª of the peopleª was much discouragedª° because of the way.ª" {Num 21:4} + "I have lovedª° you, saith²°¹ the LORD.ª Yet ye say,ª° Wherein¹ hast thou lovedª° us? [Was] not¹ Esauª Jacob'sª brother?ª saith²°¹ the LORD:ª yet I lovedª°¹ Jacob,ª ... And I hatedª° Esau,ª and laidª°¹ his mountainsª and his heritageª wasteª for the dragonsª of the wilderness.ª" {Mal 1:2-3}
