{1 Kings 21:23} And of Jezebel 348 also x1571 spake 1696 z8765 the LORD, 3068 saying, 559 z8800 The dogs 3611 shall eat 398 z8799 x853 Jezebel 348 by the wall 2426 of Jezreel. 3157

Jezebel:
"But¹ there was¹ none¹ like unto Ahab,ª which¹ did sell² ° himself¹ to workª ° wickednessª in the sightª of the LORD,ª whom¹ ¹ Jezebelª his wifeª stirred up.ª °" {1Kg 21:25} + "And the dogsª shall eatª ° Jezebelª in the portionª of Jezreel,ª and [there shall be] none¹ to buryª ° [her]. And he openedª ° the door,ª and fled.ª °" {2Kg 9:10} + "And when Jehuª was comeª ° to Jezreel,ª Jezebelª heardª ° [of it]; and she paintedª ª ° her face,ª and tiredª °¹ her head,ª and looked outª ° at¹ a window.ª ... the dogs:
Shocking as this must appear to minds that have been humanized by the kindly influence of Christianity, we still find similar instances in the accounts of modern travellers. Mr. Bruce says, that when at Gondar, "the bodies of those killed by the sword were hewn to pieces and scattered about the streets, being denied burial. I was miserable, and almost driven to despair, at seeing my hunting dogs, twice let loose by the carelessness of my servants, bringing into the court-yard the heads and arms of slaughtered men, and which I could no way prevent, but by the destruction of the dogs themselves."
