{1 Kings 12:11} And now x6258 whereas my father 1 did lade 6006 z8689 x5921 you with a heavy 3515 yoke, 5923 I x589 will add 3254 z8686 to x5921 your yoke: 5923 my father 1 hath chastised 3256 z8765 you with whips, 7752 but I x589 will chastise 3256 z8762 you with scorpions. 6137
I will add:
"And the Egyptiansª made²°¹ the childrenª of Israelª to serveª° with rigour:ª ... And they made²°¹ their livesª bitterª° with hardª bondage,ª in morter,ª and in brick,ª and in all manner¹ of serviceª in the field:ª¹ all¹ their service,ª wherein¹ they made them serve,ª° [was] with rigour.ª" {Exd 1:13-14} + "And Pharaohª said,ª° Behold,¹ the peopleª of the landª now¹ [are] many,ª and ye make them restª°¹ from their burdens.ª¹ ... Let there more work² be laidª°¹ upon¹ the men,²¹ that they may labourª° therein; and let them not¹ regardª° vainª words.ª" {Exd 5:5-9} + "Go²°¹ therefore now,¹ [and] work;ª° for there shall no¹ strawª be givenª° you, yet shall ye deliverª° the taleª of bricks.ª" {Exd 5:18} + "And ye shall cry outª° in that¹ dayª becauseª¹ of your kingª which¹ ye shall have chosenª° you; and the LORDª will not¹ hearª° you in that¹ day.ª" {1Sm 8:18} + "Then Asaª was wrothª° with¹ the seer,²°¹ and putª° him in a prisonª house;ª for¹ [he was] in a rageª with¹ him because of¹ this¹ [thing]. And Asaª oppressedª° [some] of¹ the peopleª the same¹ time.ª" {2Ch 16:10} + "[Is] not¹ this¹ the fastª that I have chosen?ª° to looseª° the bandsª of wickedness,ª to undoª° the heavyª burdens,ª and to let the oppressedª° goª° free,ª and that ye breakª° every¹ yoke?ª" {Isa 58:6} + "But the nationsª that¹ bringª°¹ their neckª under the yokeª of the kingª of Babylon,ª and serveª° him, those will I let remain¹ still²° in¹ their own land,ª saithª° the LORD;ª and they shall tillª° it, and dwellª° therein." {Jer 27:11} + "Goª° and tellª°¹ Hananiah,ª saying,ª° Thus¹ saithª° the LORD;ª Thou hast brokenª° the yokesª of wood;ª but thou shalt makeª° for¹ them yokesª of iron.ª ... For¹ thus¹ saithª° the LORDª of hosts,ª the Godª of Israel;ª I have putª° a yokeª of ironª upon¹ the neckª of all¹ these¹ nations,ª that they may serveª°¹ Nebuchadnezzarª kingª of Babylon;ª and they shall serveª° him: and I have givenª° him¹ the beastsª of the fieldª also.¹" {Jer 28:13-14}
but I will chastise:
Should you rebel or become disaffected, my father's whip shall be a scorpion in my hand. His was chastisement, mine shall be punishment. Celsius and Hiller conjecture that âkrabbim denotes a thorny kind of shrub, whose prickles are of a venomous nature, called by the Arabs scorpion thorns, from the exquisite pain which they inflict. But the Chaldee renders it margenin, and the Syriac moragyai, i.e., μαραγναι, scourges; and in the parallel place of Chronicles the Arabic has saut, a scourge. Isidore, and after him Calmet and others, assert that the scorpion was a sort of severe whip, the lashes of which were armed with knots or points that sunk into and tore the flesh.
scorpions:
"And spakeª° to¹ them after the counselª of the young men,ª saying,ª° My fatherª made²°¹ your yokeª heavy,ª° and I¹ will addª° to¹ your yoke:ª my fatherª [also] chastisedª° you with whips,ª but I¹ will chastiseª° you with scorpions.ª" {1Kg 12:14} + "And thou,¹ sonª of man,ª be not afraidª°¹ of¹ them, neither¹ be afraidª° of their words,ª¹ though¹ briersª and thornsª [be] with¹ thee, and thou¹ dost dwellª° among¹ scorpions:ª be not afraidª°¹ of their words,ª¹ nor¹ be dismayedª° at their looks,ª¹ though¹ they¹ [be] a rebelliousª house.ª" {Ezk 2:6} + "Andª there cameª° out ofª the¹ smokeª locustsª uponª the¹ earth:ª andª unto themª was givenª° power,ª asª the¹ scorpionsª of the¹ earthª haveª° power.ª ... Andª they hadª° tailsª like² unto¹ scorpions,ª andª there wereª° stingsª inª their²¹ tails:ª andª their²¹ powerª [was] to hurtª° menª fiveª months.ª" {Rev 9:3-10}
