Solomon sought:
"Then Asaª was wrothª ° with¹ the seer,² °¹ and putª ° him in a prisonª house;ª for¹ [he was] in a rageª with¹ him because of¹ this¹ [thing]. Shishak:
This is the first time we meet with the proper name of an Egyptian king in Scripture, Pharaoh being the general appellation for all the sovereigns of that country. Some are of opinion that Shishak is the same with the celebrated Sesostris of the Greek historians; but it is probable that this king lived long before Solomon's time. Usher thinks him to be Sesonchis, and places the beginning of his reign, am 3026, bc 978. "And it came to pass¹ in the fifthª yearª of kingª Rehoboam,ª [that] Shishakª kingª of Egyptª came upª ° against¹ Jerusalem:ª ... And he took awayª °¹ the treasuresª of the houseª of the LORD,ª and the treasuresª of the king'sª house;ª he even took awayª ° all:¹ and he took awayª °¹ all¹ the shieldsª of goldª which¹ Solomonª had made.ª °" {1Kg 14:25-26} + "And it came to pass,¹ [that] in the fifthª yearª of kingª Rehoboamª Shishakª kingª of Egyptª came upª ° against¹ Jerusalem,ª because¹ they had transgressedª ° against the LORD,ª ...
