{1 Kings 4:23} Ten 6235 fat 1277 oxen, 1241 and twenty 6242 oxen 1241 out of the pastures, 7471 and an hundred 3967 sheep, 6629 beside x905 harts, 354 x4480 and roebucks, 6643 and fallowdeer, 3180 and fatted 75 z8803 fowl. 1257

Ten fat:
"Moreover [there were] at¹ my tableª an hundredª and fiftyª ª of the Jewsª and rulers,ª beside those that cameª ° unto¹ us from among¹ the heathenª that¹ [are] about¹ us.² ... Now [that] which¹ was¹ preparedª ° [for me] dailyª ¹ [was] oneª oxª [and] sixª choiceª ° sheep;ª also fowlsª were preparedª ° for me, and once¹ in tenª daysª storeª ° of all¹ sorts of wine:ª yet for allª this¹ requiredª ° not¹ I the breadª of the governor,ª because¹ the bondageª was heavyª ° upon¹ this¹ people.ª" {Neh 5:17-18}

harts:
Dr. Shaw understands ayil as the name of the genus, including all the species of the deer kind, whether they are distinguished by round horns, as the stag, or by flat ones, as the fallow deer, or by the smallness of the branches, as the roe.

roebucks:
See note on "Thou shalt eatª ° it within thy gates:ª the uncleanª and the cleanª [person shall eat it] alike,ª as the roebuck,ª and as the hart.ª" {Deu 15:22}.

fallowdeer:
Yachmur, rendered bubalus by the Vulgate, probably the buffalo; and though "the flesh of a buffalo does not seem so well tasted as beef, being harder and more coarse," yet in our times, "persons of distinction, as well as the common people, and even the European merchants, eat a good deal of it, in the countries where that animal abounds." Niebuhr, Descrip. de l'Arab p. 146.
