- thou swarest:
- It is not recorded when or upon what occasion David sware to Bathsheba that Solomon should succeed him; but it is supposed, with some degree of probability, that it took place after Absalom's rebellion; and as God himself had settled the succession, he might very properly give her this assurance. "Go²°¹ and get thee inª° unto¹ kingª David,ª and sayª° unto¹ him, Didst not¹ thou,¹ my lord,ª O king,ª swearª° unto thine handmaid,ª saying,ª° Assuredlyª Solomonª thy sonª shall reignª° afterª me, and he¹ shall sitª° upon¹ my throne?ª why¹ then doth Adonijahª reign?ª°" {1Kg 1:13} + "Even¹ as¹ I swareª° unto thee by the LORDª Godª of Israel,ª saying,ª° Assuredly¹ Solomonª thy sonª shall reignª° afterª me, and he¹ shall sitª° upon¹ my throneª in my stead;¹ even¹ so¹ will I certainly doª° this¹ day.ª" {1Kg 1:30}
