Tidings:
Heb. Tidings is brought
the LORD[YHWH]:
"Then saidª° Ahimaazª the sonª of Zadok,ª Let me now¹ run,ª° and bearª°¹ the kingª tidings,²° how that¹ the LORDª hath avengedª° him of his enemies.ª²°" {2Sm 18:19} + "And Ahimaazª called,ª° and saidª° unto¹ the king,ª All is well.ª And he fell down²°¹ to the earthª upon his faceª before the king,ª and said,ª° Blessedª° [be] the LORDª thy God,ª which¹ hath delivered upª°¹ the men²¹ that¹ lifted upª°¹ their handª against my lordª the king.ª" {2Sm 18:28} + "It [is] Godª that avengethªª° me, and that bringeth down²°¹ the peopleª under¹ me, ... And that bringeth me forthª° from mine enemies:ª°¹ thou also hast lifted me up on highª° above them that rose upª°¹ against me: thou hast deliveredª° me from the violent² man.ª¹¹" {2Sm 22:48-49} + "To me [belongeth] vengeance,ª and recompence;ª their footª shall slideª° in [due] time:ª for¹ the dayª of their calamityª [is] at hand,ª and the things that shall comeª upon them make haste.ª° ... For¹ the LORDª shall judgeª° his people,ª and repent²° himself¹ for¹ his servants,ª when¹ he seethª° that¹ [their] powerª is gone,ª° and [there is] noneª shut up,ª° or left.ª°" {Deu 32:35-36} + "The righteousª shall rejoiceª° when¹ he seethª° the vengeance:ª he shall washª° his feetª in the bloodª of the wicked.ª" {Psa 58:10} + "O LORDª God,ª to whom vengeanceª belongeth; O God,ª to whom vengeanceª belongeth, shew²° thyself.¹ ... [How long] shall they utterª° [and] speakª° hard things?ª [and] all¹ the workersª° of iniquityª boast²° themselves?¹" {Psa 94:1-4} + "Ifª [it had not been] the LORDª who was¹¹ on our side, when menª rose upª° against¹ us: ... Thenª they had swallowed us upª° quick,ª when their wrathª was kindledª° against us:" {Psa 124:2-3} + "Andª shall²° notª Godª avengeª¹ his own²¹ elect,ª²° which² cryª° dayª andª nightª untoª him,ª thoughª he bear longª° withª them?ª ... I tellª° youª thatª he will²° avengeª¹ themª speedily.ªª Neverthelessª when² the¹ Sonª of manª cometh,ª° shall¹ he findª° faithª onª the¹ earth?ª" {Lke 18:7-8}; Cushi was the man Joab ordered to carry the tidings to David. He was an Ethiopian, as his name signifies, and some think he was so by birth - a black, who waited on Joab, probably one of the ten who had helped to dispatch Absalom; though it was dangerous for one of those to bring the news to David, lest his fate should be the same with theirs that reported the death of Saul and Ishbosheth to him.
