{2 Samuel 16:2} And the king 4428 said 559 z8799 unto x413 Ziba, 6717 What x4100 meanest thou by these? x428 And Ziba 6717 said, 559 z8799 The asses 2543 [be] for the king's 4428 household 1004 to ride on; 7392 z8800 and the bread 3899 and summer fruit 7019 for the young men 5288 to eat; 398 z8800 and the wine, 3196 that such as be faint 3287 in the wilderness 4057 may drink. 8354 z8800

What meanest:
"And Abimelechª saidª ° unto¹ Abraham,ª What² ¹ [mean] these¹ sevenª ewe lambsª which¹ thou hast setª ° by themselves?¹" {Gen 21:29} + "And he said,ª ° What¹ [meanest] thou by all¹ this¹ droveª which¹ I met?ª ° And he said,ª ° [These are] to findª ° graceª in the sightª of my lord.ª" {Gen 33:8} + "And when¹ the childrenª of thy peopleª shall speakª ° unto¹ thee, saying,ª ° Wilt thou not¹ shewª ° us what¹ thou [meanest] by these?¹" {Ezk 37:18}; The asses. This is the eastern mode of speaking when presenting anything to a great man: "This is for the slaves of the servants of your majesty;" when at the same time the presents are intended for the sovereign himself, and it is so understood.
