Bethel:
Probably not the celebrated city of this name, but Bethul a city of Simeon ("And Eltolad,ª and Bethul,ª and Hormah,ª" {Jsh 19:4}), supposed to be the same as Bethelia, mentioned by Sozomen as belonging to Gaza, well peopled, and having several temples remarkable for their structure and antiquity; and which Jerome says, in his life of Hilarion, was five short days' journey from Pelusium. "And he calledª °¹ the nameª of that¹ placeª Bethel:ª butª the nameª of that cityª [was called] Luzª at the first.ª" {Gen 28:19} + "And goeth outª ° from Bethelª ¹ to Luz,ª and passeth alongª ° unto¹ the bordersª of Archiª to Ataroth,ª" {Jsh 16:2} + "And the houseª of Joseph,ª they¹ also¹ went upª ° against Bethel:ª and the LORDª [was] with¹ them. ... south Ramoth:
A city of Simeon; so called to distinguish it from Ramoth Gilead beyond Jordan. "And all¹ the villagesª that¹ [were] round aboutª these¹ citiesª to¹ Baalathbeer,ª Ramath² ¹ of the south.ª This¹ [is] the inheritanceª of the tribeª of the childrenª of Simeonª according to their families.ª" {Jsh 19:8}, Ramath

Jattir:
